Strawberry Market 2024: A Sweet Celebration of Local Produce

From January 13 to 15, 2024, Kathmandu Fresh Bakery, with the initiation of Marketing and Strategic Director Ms. Unika Maharjan, organized the Strawberry Market. This unique three-day event, held at “The Main Street Artisan Café,” a sister company of Kathmandu Fresh Bakery, celebrated the versatility and value of local strawberries. Held in collaboration with local farmers from Khokhana, Kathmandu, and Pokhara, the event aimed to showcase the potential of strawberries in creating high-value bakery products.

Our talented team at Kathmandu Bakery Training Center, under the guidance of our executive chef, Mr. Lokendra Yonjan, crafted over 40 delicious items made exclusively from strawberries. The offerings included strawberry ice cream, chocolate cakes, various cakes, desserts, cookies, macarons, and many other delightful dishes. This diverse array of strawberry-based treats demonstrated the immense potential of this locally grown fruit.

The primary goal of the Strawberry Market was to empower local farmers by illustrating how strawberries, often considered a simple fruit, can be transformed into premium bakery products. By sourcing strawberries from Khokhana and local farms in Pokhara, we aimed to promote sustainable agriculture and support our local farming communities.

A unique aspect of this event was our focus on women empowerment. At the Kathmandu Bakery Hotel Training Center, we provided free training to selected women on how to produce high-value strawberry products. This initiative equipped them with valuable baking skills, enabling them to create a variety of strawberry-based items. The training not only empowered these women but also promoted gender equality in our local communities.

The Strawberry Market was a resounding success, with customers appreciating the innovative strawberry creations and the event's focus on local empowerment. We are proud to have hosted such a unique and impactful event, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to support local farmers and promote sustainable agriculture.
